This was a good discussion hashing through some fine points. That being said, there were a some comments in the chat that expressed hate and intolerance. That saddens me, because it sounded more like what I hear from the WH Republicans. We can disagree with each other, but if we are ever going to be able to live in a "big tent" together, we either have to agree to disagree or resolve the differences. I do want to differentiate some terms though. "Evangelicals" is defined as a protestant Christian movement based in the Bible, conversion, sharing the Bible, personal faith and salvation through Christ. I know decent (my opinion-the walk matches the talk) churches that largely voted for the prez based on their history of being Republicans and/or 2-3 main issues of belief. This is a very wide, encompassing category. They are not the same/equal to as Christian Nationals, though there is some crossover (CN would consider themselves Evangelicals but not necessarily vice-versa). My own church would say they are evangelical but largely voted for Harris. My church also has tremendous outreach, constantly collecting items and distributing them to all types of groups, including those despised by the current regime. Christian Nationalism is based on a political ideology believing that the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation where laws and government reflects Christian values and principles. They will select a populist like 47, as long as he follows their agenda publicly, whether or not he adheres to it personally. Unfortunately, it seems that lots of Evangelicals linked arms with them for their couple of issues, but I am hoping that as these edicts (disguised as presidential orders) will begin to separate out the 2 groups and bring back some common sense. Please don't lump us all together.
I subscribed to Tim and joined TNE. I have been so conflicted on how Christians can indorse a man who is so clearly evil. And how to share Jesus with them. I haven’t been to church since 2016. I have been doing a Bible study with my MAGA daughter and MAGA friend for since 2019. We just do not ever talk about politics. My MAGA friend recently died of cancer and now I am caring for my MAGA mom who has terminal cancer. She is 88. Along with my sister who hates Trump but doesn’t know Jesus. I so badly need a Christian community where I feel good about my politics! Timing Gods timing is absolutely perfect!
Wish I could ask him what might result if the humanists, rationalists, agnostics, atheists etc. decided the time for acceptance has past. That it's time to get equally extreme, un-nuanced and confrontational; to fight fire with fire, and declare something like "There is no such thing as God - And You Know It!"
My Wife (RIP) was a Genuine Christian. I subscribe to the original teachings of Siddhartha Gautama (some call him Buddha). It worked just fine for 46 fucking years.
This was a great conversation. I try to be open to what is said and sort out what I may research on my own. White Evangelical Christians sound like Radical Religion. One of my sisters uses religion to defend MAGA to the core. It's impossible to have a normal conversation with her without quoting the bible to fit her narrative.
Your last comment was the only one I disagree with. It's the same as giving a concession to those who will give no concessions. Now, you have to know the difference between those that will and those that won't.

Fanone hit it on Lemon's Show.. They are resorting to "....the ends justify the means...."
Gandhi: "I like your Christ, but not your Christianity"
Don’t any of the evangelicals know that trump doesn’t have any religion?

Thank you both for what y'all do.
