I am not sure of this, but I *think* part of the reason this story got so big was that there must have been some messages that went out immediately to Evangelical (and maybe other Christian) churches. I say this because I saw a groundswell of non-political, religious people sharing stuff that a religious leader was assassinated. And then they heard/saw left-leaning people not necessarily celebrating, but sharing direct quotes from CK that made them mad and they said must be "taken out of context." Like your daughter, I truly don't think a lot of the people expressing grief for him knew him. I'm going to be diving deeper into this next week when things cool down and will be asking some of my friends who posted stuff if they followed him/knew of him prior to his death. I *think* they were more than happy to quickly share a meme/outrage/Christian warrior post because they were told he was a free speech/religious martyr. I know Christian Nationalism is a more pervasive thing than I realized, but some of the people I saw posting stuff....I really don't think they knew who he was at all. Or maybe I just need to face it that I have way more people in my life than I knew of who support racist/transphobic/hateful rhetoric.
How ironic that our government will go after immigrant humans in need and inflict them with psychological and physical harm, but we won't go have foreign bots? Now that's rich!
HOW do I know that my church values the separation of church and state? The pastor NEVER mentions political events in any way. The most I have ever heard him say is to pray for our leaders. Because I see how he loves people in action, I'm pretty sure I know what side his vote would come down on. I attend a very culturally diverse church, and we are encouraged repeatedly to sit cross the church aisle to greet people, hold many events to welcome the community, hold drives to provide students and other with toiletries, and are held accountable through Biblical teaching about how we are to care for others. THAT is the measure of Christianity, not threats, derision, racism, and casting blame.
I guess once again I've gotta say we have way too many guns in our country, in the hands of too many people with axes to grind and they feel the only way to solve their problems with guns. I know it's simple but you see I took the political part out and explained it for what it truly is. People used to fight with words and fists nobody got hurt but guns are pretty permanent.

After the French Liberation Founders started cutting each other's heads off, Napoleon emerged to quell further executions & was given POWER.
