I love the discussion, but I have to disagree very strongly with Edwin’s claim that the DNC is “irrelevant to a large extent.” The DNC is part of why we are doing as well as we are right now. They may be broke, but they have invested enormous amounts in swing states and red states. Edwin pointed out that there are Democrats running in state and local elections in red districts where Democrats haven’t run in years, and that state Democratic parties are much stronger than they were before—but he presented this as a contrast to a state of affairs in which the national party was playing a big role, while in reality, the state parties are strong in large part because of the DNC’s enormous investments in them.
